Family Dollar is an American discount variety store chain founded in 1959 by Leon Levine in Charlotte, North Carolina, with roughly 8,000 stores. It was owned by Dollar Tree from 2015 until July 2025, when it was sold to a private equity group led by Brigade Capital and Macellum; it is headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia.
